Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art and combat sport focusing on ground fighting and submission grappling. It emphasizes techniques that allow smaller individuals to defend themselves against larger opponents using leverage and skill.
No experience is necessary to join our classes. We welcome beginners as well as advanced practitioners. Our instructors will guide you through the fundamentals and help you progress at your own pace.
A normal class will consist of a warm-up, going through basic movements and some drills. We go through technique, positional training, then into open sparring each class. The morning after, it is completely normal to be sore; this is part of the process! Everyone is super friendly and helpful. Having new training partners is crucial to learning, so come with an open mind to learn!
For your first class, wear comfortable athletic clothing such as a t-shirt and shorts or leggings. If you have a Gi, feel free to wear it. We also recommend bringing a water bottle and a towel.
Gi classes involve wearing the traditional BJJ uniform, which includes a jacket and pants. NoGi classes are practiced in athletic wear such as rash guards and shorts. The techniques in both styles are similar, but the grips and strategies can vary due to the presence or absence of the Gi.
Gi class – Kimono (gi) and belt
No Gi class – Rash guard and shorts (No spats only). T-Shirts and Shorts are fine (no zippers)
All classes – Drink bottle, sweat towel, mouth guard, and a positive attitude!
Be attentive and listen to your coach at all times.
Shoes on at all times when off the mats; shoes never on the mats.
Personal hygiene – Don’t be the smelly person! Come to class clean. If you have open wounds, please stay home.
Trim your fingernails.
No swearing.
Our kids’ classes are designed for children aged 5 to 13. Adults’ classes are open to individuals aged 16 and above. We ensure that all students train in a safe and appropriate environment for their age group.
Yes, we offer private lessons for individuals who prefer personalized training or want to focus on specific areas of their BJJ skills. Please contact us for more details and to schedule a private session.
Please inform your instructor about any injuries or medical conditions before the class, and they will modify the training to suit your needs.
